Biotechnology 1-2 is a two-semester course designed to give students an introduction to the scientific concepts and laboratory research techniques currently used in the field of biotechnology. Students will develop laboratory skills, critical thinking, and communication skills currently used in the biotechnology industry. Through extensive reading, laboratory work, and workplace experiences, students will evaluate career opportunities in the field of biotechnology. Objectives are presented and met in a progressive and increasingly sophisticated manner. The course is designed as an extension of core academic content in the areas of Biology/Life Science and Chemistry and supports California Career Technical Education model curriculum standards. The course will have as its foundation the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) which governs production in the biotechnology industry.
